Fantastic event and even greater achievement for Fiona completing her first 100k run event at the Ultra trails Chianti Castles UTMB ultra. What an event to choose for your first ultra 100k with over 4000m of ascent and amazing scenery, finishing distance was 104k.
Fiona was happy with her race, all was going exceptionally well and feeling good up until 90k when an ankle issue hindered the pace, but with grit she was determined to finish and she did.
What an inspiration.

#roadto100k continues with a 13k trail run today, ventured onto trails I'd not ran in years today ... It was rather wet. I think the river had overflowed the banks somewhat which meant a calf deep run through.. a further five mins and the same again. It's all good though.
Still really muddy in places, wishing for a dry spell to harden the ground up a little.
Need to up the time on my legs a bit more, not easy with work and family commitments but it's getting there.

Following my bike fit with @ironmangav @total_bikefit I have been training the position this week with a few low intensity efforts on the turbo.
It's important to train the position on the bike, ensuring you can put the power down, holding aero position for sustained periods for your race. To do this you must become relaxed on the bike and comfortable with the position.
To get used to this start off with aerobic intervals of up to 15 minutes in the position and repeat every 2 to 3 days, before long you will be able to manage much longer intervals and higher intensity, ensuring that come race day you will be able to hold it and last the distance, giving you a great bike leg and setting you up well.for the run.

Ok so it wasn't a mountain, just a little hill or two, good training for the Jurassic Coast 100k with another 10k trail run in the bag, about 170m ascent giving the legs a good workout.
I must admit I have missed trail running after many years of road running.

@total_bikefit with @addictedtotri.co.uk Even the coaches need fitting, great few hours working with Gav to get my position dialed in, feels much more stable now, not as cramped. Now for putting it to work and realising some results.
This is a worthwhile investment, making sure you are getting the most of your expensive kit and hard work by ensuring you are fitted correctly, getting the gains and using the right muscles.
Looking forward to testing it out on a local TT in the city ming months.

90k ride including horseshoe pass, followed by S&C session, nutritional talk and the coaches pool session.
Great group of like-minded athletes and coaches having a great time swim bike running with a bit of socialising too.
The rain started while we were climbing the pass, but it didn't put a damper on things, although I did forget to take a group shot on the bike π£.

What motivates you to race ?
Many different things for many people, but have you ever stopped and thought what motivates you ? What do you strive for ?
Knowing your motivators can be a key part in getting things right for training and racing. For me my main motivator is self performance, whether that be racing or training. I like to know that I have achieved or superseded what I set out to achieve on any specific day. This can change massively depending where I am. For instance I don't race in training, speed in training isn't a motivation getting the most out of the season is. Even when it comes to racing it's similar, too many factors involved.
I get up and train so I can achieve my goals - that is my main motivation always knowing I can do it. I don't mind if I am not fast, I don't try pb every run, I just keep going.
What's your motivation? What gets you up in the morning to train?

A longer run today totaling 22k, fairly easy with a mix of on and off road, with a parkrun in the middle.
Felt quite good, trying to hold back the pace a little to make the longer runs more worthwhile isn't easy though and takes a lot of mental strength due to it's unnatural feel. Still too higher pace and HR but getting there slowly.
Took a few trail paths today to break up the run and stopped to take in the view with a wonderful rainbow π.

Back on the trails today on my road to 100k, still getting used to running off road again and the change in pacing, but managed about 12k today. Felt easy enough but HR just a bit higher than I wanted, but sure the pacing will come.
My nicy shiny pink shoes are not quite as shiny now, but they felt good and worked well, so quite pleased with them.
Must admit I have missed trail running, it's been several years since i used to run off road.

Swimming ... Love it or a necessary evil ?
For the majority of triathletes I think this is nearer the necessary evil than love it, but it doesn't have to be.
I am not swimmings biggest fan, not that I can't swim well, I just find it doesn't really inspire me, it takes effort and planning to get to the pool, it's fairly repetitive, you have to swim with other people π£. This time of year it's generally pool swimming.
So how do I manage this ? I have a set plan to follow, I reduce the volume and mix up the session, in addition I get it over and done with first thing and try to swim on a mountain re regular basis.
I find if I can swim 3 times a week, minimum of 1.5 to 2k sets it takes less time for me to get into the rhythm of swimming by swimming more frequently. This avoids the dreaded π± 3k plus sets twice a week, it becomes manageable mentally and physically.
It does take up more time than swimming twice with longer sets but it keeps me more engaged in the session and I find I get more out of it. This won't replace the necessity for the really long session required for IM but it certainly helps .

Out out on the bike today, 50k with @andover_tri club mates, a couple of cheeky climbs chucked in but generally an easy paced ride. So good to be out in the sunshine, minimal wind and wasn't as cold as forecast.
Days like these are made for cycling with friends.

Day 1 of my road to 100k, testing out the new Saucony runners, all went well, good grip, no issues so far.
9.5k mainly trail run aiming for zone 2 but probably half more into zone 3. It will be hard to get the pacing right for me off road, most of my running in the past has been road running so it will take a bit of time adjusting.
But it's a start π

Thinking about race season already and starting to plan to be ahead of the game.
Today's session was a sweat test session on the turbo to calculate my sweat rate to ensure when I get into race season I have a hydration strategy. This along with my recent sodium sweat test with @precisionfandh will give me valuable information.....a marginal gain you could say that could become a huge gain.
I'm short the session was 3 lots of 70.3 intervals with recoveries with a weigh in before and after to calculate the sweat loss.
It's these details that will prove invaluable come race day, giving you that edge against the challenge ahead, they are easily calculated and can be easily retested at different temperatures similar to expected race conditions.
Knowing your hydration and nutritional needs is a major part of triathlon that is often left to chance. @totaltritraining we are investing time in giving you this information to aid your performance.

The after and before ...
It was only a 3 min power test but that was tough. Recently I have only been "ticking over" mainly zone 2 with very little else due to lack of time, health etc.
It is good to test yourself and see where you are on your journey and not to be afraid of doing so. The numbers are what they are and give you an idea of your current abilities and a base for building on. There is no point working with a false FTP much higher than your current state, best to. R honest and start.by seeing your realistic current FTP. So next step for me is 12 or 20 min test to get a bigger picture.
This doesn't mean you can't surpass your old FTP it just means currently you are not at that level and have some work to do to get to it again.

I've been a bit lapse with the cold water dipping, been blaming it on been too busy, so yesterday I put a stop to that and started up again. 8 mins at 10 degrees so not so cold but it's s start.
My aim is 3 times a week minimum and to make it a healthy habit.

..... Now where's my glass?
Feeling quite pleased with myself, achieving my first goal of the year.
That's a whole month of no alcohol, which is quite some task for me, but I did it, no problem, all good.
So why ? Well drinking can become a habit that becomes a bit more than a habit so it's good to take a break and let your body recover from the alcoholic toxins.
The benefits I have seen are quite interesting... Well to me they are.
1) - Resting heart rate dropped from average 44 to 39bpm
2) - sleep has improved, better quality and for longer
3) - slight improvement in concentration levels
4) - a few more pennies to spend on Tri gear.
Now by no means am I a heavy drinker, I am more of a little , but a little too often.
I am very mindful that as I age my health is more of a concern and the less toxins I can consume the better.
I will be celebrating with a glass or two tonight or tomorrow, but am now more mindful of the benefits of non drinking, so shall more often than not go alcohol free.

Informative evening last night with @precisionfandh organized by @challenging_events for a sweat test.
A simple measure of the amount of sodium in your sweat enabling you to calculate your required top up amount. Very interesting and informative session with a good group of people. No need for extensive exercise for this element, just strap on a couple of electrodes and then collect a bit of sweat, test and get your result. The next phases will be testing how much I sweat , then another simple calculation will give me the answer.
Hoping this information will aid my nutrition and hydration strategy for upcoming races this season.

Impromptu race today at Romsey 5 miler, last minute entry thanks to @kellywickens for switching the entry.
Great race with a large turnout, always well attended, set in Mountbatten Estate Romsey.
2 small loops followed by a larger final loop, well organiser and marshalled as usual by @challenging_events
I finished, uninjured, feeling quite good which was a surprise in a tad under 34 minutes, no idea where I finished, it was all about just getting round in one piece.
Well done if you raced Romsey 5 today or any other race, see you on the start line again soon.

Aerobic turbo session this morning, just about recovered from a cold and starting to feel normal again. It's taken a week or more to get back to normal.
Today's session was aerobic intervals, starting with 6 mins higher power lower cadence 68rpm, then 18 mins high cadence 90rpm at lower power x 2 with warm up and cool down. Great little session to get back into things without putting a great strain on the body or system.
Always listen to your body when recovering after a cold, it can take some time to fully recover, you can usually tell by checking your heart rate against pre illness or the norm, when these are elevated it's time to take it easy. Luckily for me heart rate has been good for the last few days .

When it's a bit too icy outside with a potential for slipping or tripping then It's time to hit the treadmill or the trails. For me it's the treadmill due to ankle instability issues.
Today's session was a short endurance based run, low zone 2 due to only just coming back after a cold. No need to hammer it, best option is to take it steady, keep heart rate in check and be happy you were moving. Still surprising how sweaty you get with low effort.... Should have put the fan on.
Just remember every session should have a reason and a direction, building that aerobic endurance base is a good one, but keeping the effort and HR in check is the important element to get the best results.

Whatever the weather getting out for a run is a great thing to do, it is great for your mental and physical health and well-being.
Just running can clear your mind, reduce stress, increase aerobic capacity gets you out in the fresh air. Track sessions are great for focused sessions, whether it be hard intervals, pacing or technical.
When training for a triathlon or running event it is important to be consistent, build up distance or time gradually and not overdo it too quickly. Been part of a club and or having a coach can help by ensuring the training is planned well, consistent and it keeps you honest and accountable.
Running with others is a great motivator and can aid with building confidence, technique and efficiency.

Congratulations to @kreynoldsw flying to a great finish at the Dorney Lake 5k this weekend taking second lady overall and 1st in AG with a PB to boot.
Katie has worked hard this winter on improving her run form, fitness and speed following a great debut Ironman year last year. Just proving that because you go long distance doesn't mean you can't improve speed at the shorter distances, it's just a matter of balancing, planning and some great consistent training.

Brrrrrrrrrr it's cold outside. Today is one of those days I am glad I purchased some @ironman_uk merch when completing a race. For years I wouldn't wear finishers tops and was t bothered about the bling or merchandise... But in recent years I've started wearing the finisher tops. (Well the ones that fit) I also buy a bit of merch from time to time.
Are you a "Can you not tell I am an Ironman" wearing finishers tops, merch etc all the time ....
Or are you a closet finisher, proud to have finished but don't wear any of the finisher tops or bling....
My wardrobe consists of triathlon kit to the majority, most of my t shirts for daily use are now finishers tops or tech tops, why buy other clothes when you get this stuff either including in race entry or simple purchase at the expo ....don't get me wrong I don't like to overpay ;)

Great weekend coaching in Somerset with @totaltritraining
What a fantastic weekend with around great athletes and coaches, the weather held up with some sunshine too.
Started Saturday with a track run session, then group rides followed by a. Fantastic S&C session from @totalstrengthendurance ... Sunday was another set of group rides followed by 75 minutes pool session.
The feedback from athletes was great, a full on training weekend packed with fun, fitness and analysis.
Some athletes chose the option of missing a session and getting a bike fit instead with @total_bikefit @kit_walker_tri

A bit damp out there, well on the ground it is as the rain has eventually stopped.
2nd run of the year, bringing it in slowly, nice and steady zone 2. Great for building up endurance, which eventually brings speed and stamina.
Slowdown to speedup is something that we hear a lot but most athletes struggle with the concept let alone the application. I can assure you it does work, you just have to stick with it.

Road to Sky and the Alpe du zwift this morning.... Can you tell it was harder than it should have been ?
Quite pleased I actually stuck to the task and completed the Alp, it's been a while and my fitness is lacking somit it too much more mental strength than usual.
It wasn't fast and wasn't pretty, but it's a mark in the sand to enable me to progress over the coming months. It's this mentality that you need when resting yourself, you can't always pb sometimes it's a reset and go again.
For me my power was ok but my body strength and heart rate were not where I wanted them, more S&C required and the heart rate / fitness will come back in time.

Back on it again today after a rest day yesterday. 80 mins aerobic intervals with a few short microbursts thrown in. Just trying to maintain fitness at the moment and get some momentum to start the new year well. It's not about high numbers, massive mileage or high power. Just ticking over.
Don't worry if your training has taken a nose dive the last week or so, just do what you can, try get the sessions in or at least something... This will make the transition back to full training in the new year much easier and you won't have lost much fitness.
Keep at it and keep doing something.

Something is better than nothing.
It's that time of year when time just disappears, nipping out for last minute shopping, catching up with colleagues friends and family, travelling, parties, work parties .. a few too many πΊ....
There's always loads going on in December so don't beat yourself up if you miss a session or 2, try do what you can when you can, having a bit of a break Is not a bad thing and you have to enjoy what you are doing. Remember family and friends give up a lot so you can train, a little payback won't go amiss.
So remember do what you can when you can, don't beat yourself up and don't try to catch up missed sessions later in the week. Just be happy that you have done something. Your fitness won't be lost by a couple of missed or shortened sessions.

We are NOT all the same.
Everyone is different, we are individuals, we react differently, we think differently, we are built differently, we have a huge degree of variation in our ability.
So why do so many people choose a generic plan for their training goals rather than speaking with a professional such as a triathlon coach?
Probably the biggest factor is cost, then possibly the feeling of not been good enough, then the self learning elements, intrigue into training regimes, trial and error... I am not sure exactly but there must be reasons.
So why choose a triathlon coach instead? Lots of reasons, such as getting the most out of each session, goal realisation, each session has a purpose, feedback, knowing what does and doesn't work for you....the list goes on.
The main reason though is that we are individuals what works for one might not work for another, so why risk 9 months of training using a generic plan when you could use that time wisely with a coach and get the best out of yourself.
Food for thought.

Doh...didn't put the fan on for today's turbo session, hadn't bothered as it was an easy aerobic set, however it was a lot warmer in there than it has been of late. Managed to get off and put the fan on after the 2nd interval. Must install the Bluetooth socket.
Top tip .. buy a Bluetooth or wireless socket for your fan when on the turbo in winter.

No ice this morning, still a little chilly at 6 degrees, but this meant a little longer in the there.
I definitely think that around 6 degrees is good for me, too much colder and I can't stay in as long and don't really get that prolonged buzz, whereas at 6 I can't do over 6 minutes. Not sure if there's anything in it but it seems to work for me.

Brrrrrrrrr this morning was more of a plunge than a dip.
Ice on top of the water, thermometer read 2 degrees water temp, outside air temp was well into negative.
I managed 1 minute, it was definitely very very chilly and that's all I could manage.
Just remember cold water dipping is not about seeing how cold you can go and for how long, it's about what works for you and knowing your limits, there's no place for Ego's when it comes to this, it does put your body and organs under stress.
Still not 100% sure of any huge benefits to cold water therapy, but will continue as so far there are no downsides and the pleasant feeling afterwards gets you going for the day.

Work on your weaknesses during the off season, build strength and endurance, but most of all enjoy what you do.

Southampton 10k, pleasantly surprised with 39.32 and 3rd place in the Vet 45 and 47th overall.
I only entered this race recently due to my own frustration with struggling with knee and ankle niggles amongst other issues. My aim was to see if I could run it all and get about 42 mins without failing.
I set off today running behind the 40 min pacer, strangely feeling comfortable, at about 6k I pulled in front of him as I felt my pace was good. Carried on and finished well under 40 mins, very surprised and happy, fastest 10k this year.

Just run....
Today I just wanted to run, I wasn't looking at pace, heart or any other data, just running off feel.
Just running is great, no pressure, running at a speed that makes you feel good, pushing the pace a little more than your usual zone 2 while not hammering out intervals.
I don't do this very often but I feel it is sometimes necessary for my sanity and mental health and wellbeing. Today felt great, no pain from my ankle or knee, the rehab appears to be working, my breathing was under control and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Couldn't face the wind today so decided on the turbo instead.
Since my last race my fitness has dropped due to recovery, rehab from a few niggles and reduced training loads. Trying to get my mojo and motivation back whilst continuing with the knee and ankle rehab.
Started off with a 1 hour 15 aerobic intervals session planned ... Within 15 mins was wanting to quit, I decided on just trying to get through the next interval and not looking at the session as a whole. This helps, after 3 intervals I was happy to do just 1 more.
Breaking down the session helped and I managed to get the full 6 intervals in and finish the session Inc warm down. the intervals were not hard, they were aerobic, it was my head giving in not my body.
Keep at it, take each day as it comes, break things down into bite size chinks and eventually you will succeed.

On my run today I stopped to have a chat with a couple of locals, not sure I understood the lingo but they were friendly enough.
Getting outside to run is fantastic, not only does it make you happy, get you fitter and healthier it has some great mental health benefits. Just switching off from the mundane day day life and switching on to nature, taking in the countryside, views, animals and birds.
So today was pigs, last week cows and sheep, quite often see a few red kites or buzzards....

Cracking ride in the sun this morning, but chilly to start but got a bit warmer.
Yesterday I fitted some proper mudguards to the gravel bike, makes for a much more pleasant ride when the roads are wet, they will likely stay on all through winter.
Easy zone 2 today, steady away covering 75k in about 3 hours, no efforts just enjoying the ride and knowing the purpose.... Endurance. I started in Hampshire, little detour into Wiltshire and almost hit the Berkshire border too, finishing back in Hampshire.

The majority of your time in the turbo should be spent in your race position, especially your intervals.
Practice practice practice and come race day reep your rewards, you need to spend A LOT of time in the race position to feel comfortable and get your body used to working in that way.
Yes you will have fitness gains sat up but been in the race position will aid you the most.

A beautiful day for a spin on the gravel bike.
Mixing it up a little today, making the most of the sunshine and heading out for an easy endurance ride, no intervals, just out out enjoying the cycling.
This time of year is great for enjoying the scenery, the autumnal weather making the lanes light up with multicolored leaves. The benefit of the zone2 or easier ride is it aids endurance build while limiting stress on the body, getting that base fitness in ready for next season.
Not heading off road but hoping the gravel bikes tyres will do a better job of riding over the shoddy road surfaces.

Dip dip dip dip dipping....
Back in the plunge pod this morning, glorious 10 degree water temp and about 7 degrees outside, today felt the easiest to get in, no hanging around, just step in and dip. Stayed in for ten minutes.
Now that the water temp.is below 11 degrees I am now definitely feeling a buzz afterwards. It's very refreshing and relaxing whilst in it and then for about 30 minutes after it's like you have had your fix.....
Not noticed any other benefits yet but it's early days, it's only week 2.

Week 1 done with 5 cold water dips, today's was 10 mins @ 11 degrees.
Thoughts after week 1, it's not as bad as you think it will be, in fact after the initial shock it's quite relaxing, concentrate on breathing and enjoy.

Mainly recovery and rehab for my knee and ankle, but also to see what daily benefits there are to mental health and wellbeing of any.

Great social cycle this morning, 56k in the bag on the gravel bike, then rehydration at the pub with fellow @andover_tri members followed by 7 mins @13 degrees in the cool pod.
That is 3 days in a row for water dip, started off 16 degrees now 13 degrees, could definitely feel the difference getting in but once in there it was fine. No noticeable benefits as yet from the cold dips, but am I not just starting and to be fair it's not really that cold yet.

I've caved in and decided to try this cold water dipping malarkey ...
For the last few weeks I've been enduring a cold shower post workouts to climatise to this. Today the day came to go dipping... I can't lie it wasn't cold, thermometer said 15 degrees, probably should have added some ice.
Well I've started and quite enjoyed the serenity of a quiet dip in the garden, lasted about 6 minutes, it's a start so let's see if I can continue throughout the winter and see what if any benefits I gain.

Goals can seem unreachable, difficult at times, somewhat out of reach or impossible, but you should be patient as your time will come, be realistic in your approach but also reach for the stars in your long term goal planning.
This was back in 2012 in the 35-39 ag Auckland triathlon world championship, a fantastic experience from start to finish.... I didn't just happen open gaining qualification to represent GB I started my journey in 2009, through hard work, belief from family, friends, coaches and club I achieved my goal of a World Championship, since then I've been lucky enough to compete a few more times.
To achieve your goals you need a great team of positive people around you, the strength and belief you get from that is important. Without this it can become a struggle , not knowing if and when you are doing the right thing, plateau in performance, over training, overloaded with information but not fully understanding it.
Build a team around you, whether that be a club, like-minded friends, family or a coach or coaching team.
Make your dreams and goals become a reality.

Its Yorkshire Marathon Weekend, a race I look back on fondly - I'e raced it 3 times, such a great event, great support and route. Slightly lumpy in parts and a great sense of achievement crossing that finish line. I wish I was racing it this year.

Gravel ride . Beautiful weather, great company, what's more to like?
Glorious gravel around Salisbury Plain with Tony plus great to bump into @kreynoldsw a few times around the course.
With the ride there and back 118k cycled with over 1300m ascent. It's amazing what's on your doorstep, some stunning countryside and a great route, will be taking my gravel bike out that way again soon. Thankfully the weather was fantastic making it a very enjoyable ride.

Triathlon is without doubt becoming more about delivering well on the run for top results, but not everyone reading this is looking for that from the sport
For those that are chasing results, running is an easy way to enjoy some racing over winter, keep some intensity in your training and really move something on in the dark months.
* Race but not too often – about once a month
* Think of the hard sessions as 6 months of giving 95% and not 3 weeks of going 100% and then feeling burnt out
* Be Social - Run for a club, we even developed our own club for running to create a runners mindset and make it more social

* Run hills, they make you strong
* Run on soft ground – you get injured less

Lunchtime ride in the lanes and tracks on the gravel bike, great to be outdoors and getting some fresh air.
Still setting bike up, moved seat back a touch for this ride but now need to raise it slightly.
Gravel bike gives you some great options, road, gravel, track, trail and proper off roaring, plus it's great for tackling those British potholed roads. I am no expert off roader but looking to improve my bike handling skills, explore a little more and enjoy riding.

Consistency is key and when it comes to Triathlon there is no bigger truth. To get the most out of your bike splits you need to work on your bike position, not only getting the right position but been able to hold it comfortably for at least the duration of your event. This means practice practice practice... all those bike sessions on the turbo, the intervals, aerobic, threshold sessions should nearly always be done in your Tri position, it should become second nature and come race day you will be thankful.
In addition working on your mobility and flexibility will also help you become more comfortable in the Tri position, even enabling you to go that much further, increasing your aerodynamic position meaning faster for less effort.
These are free gains in essence easy to do for everyone once you get in the habit... it's ultimately free speed, so go get aero.

Great ride out this morning with the Andover Wheelers, good solid group working well together, a ot 80k covered and a coffee stop to finish.
The weather was pretty good, hardly any wind, little bit of sun and nice mild temp, just what was needed to start the weekend off.
My triathlon racing has finished so now is about recovery, taking it easy on the bike but still getting some decent mileage in. What's great about group riding is you can cover a good distance at a decent speed but when you look at your stats afterwards it's low power and low heart rate for the most part ....except for the bits when you were pulling on the front.
Get out on your bike with your mates, nothing better to get the weekend going.

πPost Season Part 3 – Swimming (for busy age groupers)
Whilst I believe your swim is key in triathlon to a good overall performance it is also the sport that takes the most amount of time out of your week for the training hours accumulated. Travelling to the pool for most age groupers is the hardest part of training to fit in. We all didn’t swim for months on end in lock down, within 8 weeks everyone had their swim back…………..
Have a period of swimming a little less than frequently to free up some time in life after a busy year – your loved ones might hate you a bit less π. 2 months in post season thinking like this will do no harm for most.
If you swam 3-4 times a week, swim twice, if you swam twice, just go once. Focus on two key things in this period
π¦Focus on good technique. To do this swim slowly with great, purposeful form using appropriate swim toys for your own swim weaknesses
π¦Then swim hard without thinking. Swim a hard set each week ideally with friends or join a swim club – embrace what it is to work hard in the pool
This will give you range of speed, an ability to go through the gears – something most age groupers don’t have but great swimmers do.

This year was about trying to get round and finish a race without failing due to injury, I did it and as you can see from the finish pics I was very happy to get to that finish line.
Its not all about the podium or finishing high up, a goal can be achieved by just getting round the course or even getting to the start line in good condition.
It was a tough day, congratulations to every single one of you that took on the course and especially to all the volunteers and supporters who got absolutely soaked so we could enjoy a but of bike and run fun.
Looking forward to a bit of R&R then getting back into it for a fulll recovery in 2024.... see you on the start line next year.

Well that was an interesting morning weather wise, thunder and lightening from 4 am, a deluge of rain just as I was walking down to transition at 5.45... all ready to get in the swim at 6.55, swim cancelled due to forecast electrical storm.
Back into transition for a bike run and a TT start. As you can see transition was rather flooded.
Bike was going well, a bit windy but mainly dry up until about 15 miles to go and the storm hit again, rain was like hailstones.... wind was hammering from the sides on the decent back to Weymouth.
Onto the run and it was still chucking it down for first 10 mins.. had to stop a few times on first lap to stretch out the calves and tight ankles ... then got into a good rhythm for the next lap and a half. Onto the finish chute ..
Great event, shame about the weather and the swim cancellation, but probably the right decision given the storms.
Well done to all that competed in tough conditions.

Race week taper run.
A great run session today for taper week, 4 x 4 mins race pace, 3 mins easy recovery with warm up and cool down.
This session gets your legs comfortable running at race pace without fatiguing you too much, the short intervals with recovery mean you will still be fresh following the session.
Top tips for race week recovery is to either ice bathe the legs post running or after your shower run cold then warm alternatively over the calves and quads. Another tip is to elevate the legs a few times during the day, aiding recovery ensuring your legs are feeling good for race day.

New bike day woohoooo ππ
I've been toying with getting a new bike all year, initially wanted an aero road bike, but realised I only wanted it due to how good they look, I don't race on road bike and most of my training is longer distances.
So after some food for thought I decided on a gravel bike, mainly due to the state of the roads in the UK and the fact that it gives me options of off road, gravel and off road.
I went for the Orro Tera C Ekar - a single crank with 13 gears. Took it for a quick spin and so far so good, nice bike, handles well and has great power delivery with a big range of gears. Need to get it set up properly but looking forward to some adventures in the coming months.

@kreynoldsw you are an Ironman... First Ironman completed at Ironman Wales, finishing 11th in Age. Fantastic result and a testament to all the hard training ... It's all worthwhile when you reach the red carpet of an Ironman.
@fitfemalefifty final triathlon of the sarsin finishing 2nd in age and 9th lady overall at Black Country sprint triathlon. Little bit of rest and recovery before the off season goals are chased.
Me .... A DNS .. supposed to be racing Bala Standard but due to fog and a delay they switched to a duathlon. Well with my ankle still not 100% I didn't want to risk sprinting 2.5k then cycling 40k and running 10k. So a long drive home after a non start.
Great results from the whole of TTT racing all over the country this weekend.

Sunday cycling, enjoying the sunshine, even if it was a tad breezy. Not long til race day in Weymouth so racking up the jasy of the longer miles, I have an oly next weekend so have to take that into account.
A few technical issues to start meaning have to swap bikes, then power pedals didn't connect... But hey it's not all about the numbers... Having said that it would have been able to check the power data afterwards.
Another 70plus kilometer ride in the bag. Felt good on the bike which is the main thing.
